about

This incredible melody comes from a french folk song, 'Blanche comme la Neige." Anita Best has sung it for years, and, as always, I am indebted to her for enriching my life with such beautiful songs. The opening lyric is inspired by another beautiful song - one we sang in church choir in my childhood - "now the day is over, night is drawing nigh, shadows of the evening steal across the sky..."

lyrics

Day is nearly done, shadows of the evening
Steal across the sky, stir this restless feeling
Lonely 'cause you're gone, I'm stranded in this place
Wandering among strangers, searching for your face

Who will soothe my soul, calm the raging river
Chase the mystery down, searching for the answer
Lonely 'cause you're gone, you who spurned the chains
Kept nothing close to hold you but unrequited dreams

Petals from your flower strewn across my memory
Song is left unsung, I can't recall the melody
Lonely 'cause you're gone, I'm stranded in this place
Wandering among strangers, searching for your face
