With a nod to the Bard himself, (William Shakespeare, from whom I borrowed the chorus line), this is an "oh well" reaction to a slight - wish I could always be so philisophical over such events!
It took me ages to to master the piano part for this - what I heard in my head far outstripped my chops, but I finally got it! Rick Hollet's romantic accordion, Pete Zorn's exotic horn, and the girls' singing brought the whole thing to life, although it took a while to balance my North American "Play Awwwn" with their English "play Oooon"!
lyrics
Oh Darling, you asked me to dance
I stumbled and fell, stumbled and fell
I don't dance very well, couldn't you tell
I was lonely and longed for romance
And you asked me to dance
Just a dance, a diversion, a smile
But a fool isn't wise, a fool isn't wise
I fell into your eyes, and your sweet lovin' lies
That made me so happy for a while
Just a dance and a smile
But the music will be playing still, long after you are gone
If music be the food of love, play on!
Oh Darling, you dared me to dream
It was all about you, all about you
What could I do, I thought you knew
That I'm not as strong as I seem
And love, when you led me away
I followed you home, followed you home
Then you left me alone, I should have known
I was only an extra in your play
But the music will be playing still, long after you are gone
If music be the food of love, play on
Play on, play on, and on and on
The music will be playing still long after you are gone
If music be the food of love, play on!
