Play On 03:56
Oh Darling, you asked me to dance I stumbled and fell, stumbled and fell I don't dance very well, couldn't you tell I was lonely and longed for romance And you asked me to dance Just a dance, a diversion, a smile But a fool isn't wise, a fool isn't wise I fell into your eyes, and your sweet lovin' lies That made me so happy for a while Just a dance and a smile But the music will be playing still, long after you are gone If music be the food of love, play on! Oh Darling, you dared me to dream It was all about you, all about you What could I do, I thought you knew That I'm not as strong as I seem And love, when you led me away I followed you home, followed you home Then you left me alone, I should have known I was only an extra in your play But the music will be playing still, long after you are gone If music be the food of love, play on Play on, play on, and on and on The music will be playing still long after you are gone If music be the food of love, play on!

He'll be leaving long before the dawn, I'll wake up, he'll be gone Steaming out to nowhere and beyond I gave up going down to say goodbye, won't let him see my eyes Asking yet again to tell me why He's going a hundred miles offshore to sweep the ocean floor For anything they never took before A hundred, a hundred miles offshore A hundred miles or more to face whatever nature has in store The sea's a savage, crashing on the strand, cruel mistress to my man A love I can't begin to understand And I don't need it, all the fancy toys, the things the money buys I'd rather have him poor and still alive And no-one's listening to any S.O.S A seaman in distress, a child lost on the ice who walks to death A hundred, a hundred miles offshore A hundred miles or more to face whatever nature has in store Ah, precious cargo, my husband and our son Seven heardy seamen, my brothers all but one Don't be going a hundred miles offshore, It's different than before, there's nothing left to catch there anymore A hundred, a hundred miles offshore A hundred miles or more to face whatever nature has in store

Goodbye, prince of darkness, there's changes on the wind The spell is finally broken, and this long night must end When did I start to love you more than I love myself Loving you I wasn't able to love anybody else Goodbye, prince of darkness, I won't be what you see And fall from grace and power, fulfill your prophesy Down, down in your sad soul, my love just fades away My pearls turn into pebbles, and rainbows turn to gray Goodbye, prince of darkness, I must away, be free The night has been too long, too long, and the soft light beckons me How I long to laugh and sing, to dance, even to dream But most of all to find a way to break away, be free

Barbry Ellen 04:11
O death is pictured in your face, and sorrow has gone from you I can't keep you from your grave, so fare thee well dear Johnny As she was going through the town, she heard the church bell tolling The more it tolled it seemed to sound, hard- hearted Barbry Ellen She looked to the east, she looked to the west, she saw his corpse a-coming Saying "put him down my little boys, that I may gaze all on him" The more she looked, the more she laughed, 'til further she got from him All her friends cried out "for shame - hard-hearted Barbry Ellen" Johnny died that night by the day, and Ellen on the morrow Johnny he did die for love, but Ellen died for sorrow Johnny was buried in the low churchyard, Ellen in the higher Out of Johnny's grave grew a rose, and out of hers a briar It grew 'til it grew to a true love's knot, grew 'til it couldn't grow higher Grew 'til it grew to a true love's knot, and the rose grew 'round the briar

A rose in the wildwood blooming The briar admired the rose There were sweet scented blossoms plenty The briar befriended the rose And the rose embraced the briar The briar desired the rose But the gentle rose could never tell the briar Of a longing to be free And the briar was blinded by love Couldn't see, couldn't see The rose slowly fading The rose was slowly fading The briar lamented the rose

Lonely 03:35
Day is nearly done, shadows of the evening Steal across the sky, stir this restless feeling Lonely 'cause you're gone, I'm stranded in this place Wandering among strangers, searching for your face Who will soothe my soul, calm the raging river Chase the mystery down, searching for the answer Lonely 'cause you're gone, you who spurned the chains Kept nothing close to hold you but unrequited dreams Petals from your flower strewn across my memory Song is left unsung, I can't recall the melody Lonely 'cause you're gone, I'm stranded in this place Wandering among strangers, searching for your face

See the natives dancing, tour bus arrives at three Trained seals, a soiree circus, stolen dignity Pale shadows dreaming in a replica of home Forgotten spirits sighing while the icebergs moan All the pretty flowers plucked then cast away Green leaves left to wither and the roots decay The keepers of the culture saw their birthright sold Forget about the fishery, rush for the gushing black gold Grand place to buy up heaven, summer place around the bay Abandoned by the locals who could not afford to stay Is there a lonely listener to the dark and crashing tide Ancient songs 'til starset, false gaiety defied Too many tears have fallen, too many storms have raged While the drunken sailor dances on the stage

My wayward heart has a mind of its own What can I do to make it come home Running to trouble, up to no good Chasing down dreams like nobody should Wayward heart with a mind of its own My wayward heart has a mind of its own Restless and running, destined to roam Listens to wind, sighs with the sea Then looking back and laughing at me Wayward heart with a mind of its own Soars with the eagle, cries with the loon Smiles with the sun, and rides with the moon Wayward heart with a mind of its own Wayward heart, please come home

Travellers 04:05
Just like a bird who seeks her nest The weary traveller needs to rest Still we spend our precious lives scrambling for the prize Never remembering who we are Travellers on a star We're not going very far Our fellow pilgrims on the path Are pushed aside so we can pass And if we fear we're left behind We find a reason to rob them blind Have we forgotten who we are Travellers on a star Travellers on a star Somebody's dreaming us tonight But we'll be gone by morning's light And all the wars and grief and care vanish into air Have we forgotten who we are Travellers on a star Travellers on a star

I have a sister, young Clifford said, a sister no-one knows She hath the colour all in her cheeks like a drop of blood in snow She hath a waist, a waist, a waist, like to my silver cane And I would not for ten thousand worlds have King Henry know her name King Henry in his fair bower was hid so close and still That every word young Clifford said, he wrote down in a bill The first fair lines she looked upon she did begin to smile The next fair line that she looked upon the tears ran down in aisles Oh cursed be my brother Clifford, cursed may he be Why can't he dote on his hawks and hounds, but he must dote on me

Loving Arms 04:02
If you could see me now, the one who said that she would rather roam The one who said she's rather be alone, if you could only see me now If I could hold you now, just for a moment if I could really make you mine Just for a while, turn back the hands of time, if I could only hold you now I've been too long in the wind, too long in the rain, taking any comfort that I can Looking back and longing for the freedom of my chains, and lying in your loving arms again If you could hear me now, singing somewhere in the lonely night, Dreaming of the arms that held me tight. if you could only hear me now Looking back and longing for the freedom of my chains, and lying in your loving arms again Just to lie in your loving arms again, I can almost feel your loving arms again.

Resplendent in the ranks of mud, unmindful of the race of man I bloomed with waterlily bud, lolled blissful in the pools of Pan Cavorting in a classless ooze, oblivious to all amiss My life one lovely swampy snooze, before that metamorphic kiss Now as a prince I pace bright halls, and palace floors are prickly dry I plop from ornamental walls to catch the odd bug on the sly Weighed down by crown my mother sits a- counting out her kingdom's woes My princess screams and threatens fits, she's found a blemish on her nose I keep a swamp tune in my head against the stress of courtly knack I crave the id of watershed, caressing moonshine on my back

about

Welcome to Play On - my first studio recording in seven years!

Through the generosity of my fans, my family and friends, I have finally finished the album, which I began in Oxfordshire in the summer of 2011.

The music is mostly original material, with a couple of traditional songs and one cover. I have amazing session musicians on board, both here and in England, and wonderful engineers - big shout out to my right hand man Mark Lee, and editing/mastering wizard Jeremy Paul Carroll!

I hope that you enjoy it as much as I did in bringing it to you.
